Q:According to Bleeding Cool DC is using "affirmative action" to ignore talented writers and artists. Marvel seems to be doing the same thing. Please hire people based on skill not arbitrary statistics to please feminists and radical leftys.

In all seriousness, BC knows next to nothing about why we do what we do.
There are so many other snarky things I have started to type in response to this but I keep thinking better of it and deleting them. Suffice it to say it’s my job to hire the best people for the books, and I plan to do that.

So is this one guy sending the same message to like, every writer and editor he can find? I mean it’s not word for word, but I’ve seen similar asks with the same sentiment, same sort of language, sent to different people like 3 times now. And that’s just the people who ANSWERED. Did he open up a list of comics creators/editors on Tumblr and just hit up each and every one of them in a blind rage about Marvel and DC attempting to correct a long standing imbalance? I mean it’s plainly obvious that it’s not like either Marvel or DC are turning away people who are straight white men, straight white men still make up a pretty hefty chunk of the names on the books. And this is understandable because of the history of the industry. But I think it’s a good thing that both Marvel and DC are trying to broaden their talent pool and audience.

Also, it amuses me, I often see this on like CBR or wherever else, that people like the OP often assume that these decisions are being made in order to appeal to some outside group crying for change. And that is the ENTIRE reason. They never seem to entertain the notion that the people creating these books (or shows or games or wherever else you may see a similar argument being made) may actually BELIEVE in what they are creating. It’s like they can’t fathom someone actually holding these beliefs and attempting to make changes based on them. It’s also terribly ironic, because capitulating to a vocal minority is exactly what he’s asking for. Just as long as it’s him you listen to and not the ‘feminists and radical leftys’
