Now Playing Tracks

Was reading Happy by Grant Morrison and Darick Robertson and something hit me… Grant Morrison re-used an old Authority panel and got it past the censors this time. The top panel is from The Authority #28, Midnighter shoots Teuton in the back of the head with a nail gun while rescuing Apollo. Bottom is from Happy #1, a hitman gets double crossed.

Now, the Authority #28 is notable for two reasons. One, this panel in particular got censored, it originally did have a hole exploding through the front of his forehead, just like the Happy panel, but DC nixed the gore (in an Authority comic of all things, I mean honestly. And after the cover of the previous issue looked like this. Poor Apollo.) and that really pissed off artist Arthur Adams, who then quit the book. Two, it is the issue that started the long standing feud between Mark Millar and Grant Morrison, because while Millar’s name ended up on the cover, Morrison actually wrote the issue. (I mean come on, Religimon is SO Grant Morrison) So I am pretty sure the similarity is intentional.
